All the statistics suggest that poverty is getting worse, not just in the UK but all over Europe. I don't believe that anyone enjoys begging on the streets or going to food banks. It is just a sign of how unequal our society has become.

Thanks to all for comments and likes.

Let me put it this way Telboy,
https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/james-obrien/caller-lbc-fundamentally-sacked-civil-servant-phone-call/

Things in this country are that bad that a civil servant has been sacked for calling out government corruption.
He says he has no regrets.
The LBC caller spoke to James O'Brien following the Zahawi revelations.
"I feel sick to the stomach, I put my job on the line and nothing has changed".

All that's going on while working NHS staff, including nurses literally have to choose between heating their homes or putting food in their childrens' mouths.

"I see pensioners driving to country pubs for their lunch. Where are the poor people?"

The poor people are:
the ones WITHOUT expensive cars,
who DON'T have takeaways delivered,
the ones NOT driving to country pubs,
the one's WITHOUT mobile phones,
the ones WITHOUT tattoos,
the ones WITHOUT fake nails.

people who're not like you,
people you don't see,
people you never talk to.

I have to say, and I'm not being flippant here, that I struggle to find 'the poor'. As I drive through the large estates in my town (traditionally the home of poor people) I see expensive cars parked in driveways, Deliveroo and Just Eat deliveries being made, Amazon and umpteen other couriers delivering parcels, everyone with mobile phones, getting tattoos and fake nails etc. Away from the town I see pensioners driving to country pubs for their lunch. Where are the poor people?
