Larger than life he was

jut jawed Prince, stealer

of the queens heart who

tolerated the corgis and

didn't suffer fools gladly.

Of course, he knew the

pitch and toss of ocean

waves, and what it meant

to run up battle flags upon

the arctic's coastal fleets.

Did lots for youngsters too

with his award scheme which

urged on stoicism and resolve.

Famous for his gaffes which

brought on laughter globally.

Celebrated odent-pedologist.

Yes, to MC Newbury. The stuff of fairy tales, and both the Royal couple doted on each other.

His will be a hard pair of boots to fill.

In a strange way, I think he understood the importance of being an entertainer, or at least a personality.

He had a difficult childhood and a reputation as a difficult man, but
it's not difficult to admire what he stood for and managed to achieve
in a long life. It's a good bet (on this Grand National Day!) that he
was a king not a prince to Her Majesty The Queen throughout their life together..
