Coming up for air

entry picture

Coming up for air

coming round from lockdown slumber
rising fast almost gasping for breath
that drowning feeling

heavy head, heavy eyes
more autmun rain
shields any chance sunrise

this is the first time I slept well tonight
the radio chats on each time I wake
left on for company in the dark

stark realisation that it's time for work
another eight hours in solitary
don't get me wrong
I know it could be worse
and certainly no slave
more work cave, than man cave

how much longer can this go on
like an alcoholic sentence without the poison
clinging on to keep a clear mind

need to remember, I'm not alone
need to stay close to those who I know

as dawn breaks again
I'm coming up for air
hold on to hope, we can get there
