God's Rays

We walk in silence.

As God’s rays break through the cotton candy clouds.

And shine on the hills on the horizon.

                                                                                                                                                                              Our path is illuminated,

By the last of the evening’s light.

You point to the sky and

Tell me it looks like heaven is calling us.

God beckons us,

Daring us to join.

But after a moment of consideration,

We both agree that we have too much

Still to do on this Earth.

You take my hand,

And we turn our backs on God’s invitation,

At least for now.

And halfway home

I turn around to check if they

Are still there.

But the sky has changed.

And God’s visit is over,

For another day.

An imagination beyond belief. I never would have considered it that way.
