A SENSE OF SPRING

They’re waving at me,

they’re doing it again

those sturdy boughs are

swaying in the breeze

This morning we had

hailstones, and now this,

supposedly, the merry

month of May, 2020

There are plenteous

others they can wave

to – so why me – and

just because I’m looking

across at them through

my bedroom window

as the storm – rattles

hailstones everywhere

I pull up my stool and

stare again through glass

and I’m delighted to see

those cardinals are back

tugging at the worms,

gales dancing boughs,

and clattering sticks, as if

they were like castanets

We’ve had some rough weather here in the UK this weekend too! I saw Red Cardinals when I visited the US a few years back - lovely birds.
