Courageous heroin she was

leading the assault like that

using all the placatory tones,

eyes rooted to the spot trying

to hold her nerve – I could

almost hear her say the words -

fear you see, it gets to them. Her,

still, priming the lance, though

she’d blush if I called her that. No

Very signal flare - or anything like

it, or MBE. Just cautionary words

the dreaded ones: ‘Sharp scratch’

and then the claret oozing from

my arm – and her placing those

vintages into the tiny amphora,

avoiding any spillages for tests

Ironically we spoke of the BBC

before she placed my samples

in the Surgerys’ chilled refrigerator.

What will the analysts make of it

I ask, microscopically speaking of

course, me rolling back my sleeve

after she cordoned off the wound,

we waving our courteous goodbyes.

Me, merely a passing medical statistic

in the ceaseless war against adversity

Don - our UK mozzies have been having a field day and all at my expense. I cut the upper part of my thumb in the garden recently and the little sods have made camp sites all around it. I'm thinking about how they are so crammed full of sensory equipment as tiny as they are. There's a blog there somewhere : Bzzzzzzzzzzz-zzzzzzzzzzzz - whine-whine-whine. Struth - got the little beggar

Our mozzies here have gone to bed
Now too bloody cold
Now gotta battle frosty toes
(Feel more now I'm old)

This has got nothing to do with the poem Don......

P's fault for mentioning it.....

Thank you Po, and thank you Abdul. Po - Tony Hancock - who could forget that classic about an armful? The founder of our NHS should have been knighted for his drive and impetus in bringing it about. The boys and girls who do the work to shield us from harm at surgeries are saints. We are fortunate indeed to have such wonderful facilities at our disposal. How are you guys coping with the mozzie bites BTW.?
Have just seen Jennifer pop up on my screen as well, prompting me to add a further last line to the poem. So thank you for your expressions of concern.
Jabs unfortunately, are an all too frequent warrior in my fight against ill health these days. Blessings. P

Very clever - thought you were talking about an amazon warrior in the first part! Hope if autobiographical it was just routine.

The great late Tony Hancock springs to mind here.

Hoping all is well... come back this way and tell.
