Some tongues are wagging tails
speaking behind the back of those,
whom heaven had ordained they
curb their mocking tales and ways.
Of course they’d never say it to your
face, but in those galleries where
sounds reverberate, whispers here
or there, are sometimes overheard
above sounds of prayer and decency.
Yet in the church refectory after
the psalms were piously mouthed,
uncouth remarks are sometimes
mouthed. I don’t proclaim all Church
Ministers guilty of the gossiping sin,
just a few, who sitting in the pews not
far away from you, pipe up with snide
remarks as if it were a righteous thing
to get their kicks. Some elders of the
ministry are saints on earth, but not
the puffed up types, who sharpen claws
unaware that heaven’s door is shut
to those who wait until someone’s
back is turned then twist stiletto
blades, and thus appear superior.
