The thing that astonishes

me about those amazing

insects, is their ability to

stay up in the air. Some say

that aerodynamically they

shouldn’t be doing it at all

carrying such a body weight

To my ear there is no more

pastoral sound, than them

simply buzzing away in the

fields or folds of our ancient

wealds or country villages

To my mind, even the Halle

orchestra couldn’t produce

a sweeter sound – hark at

their musical madrigals, and

there are 20,000 species of

them someone said, not to

mention near cousins, wasps

which have you gasping for

breath if you sit on one, or

the crawl up your pants type

ants, pincers primed to go

I heard there was a piece of

music composed about a

flight of one of them, a

classical piece it was, by

somebody famous. And to

cap it all they inhale within

that same air humans breathe.

Don’t let their pollen sacks

catch against a sleeve, or it

may not brush so easily away

Forgot to press button project ailerons
Some reason crash-landed in heap

Nice while it lasted.....
