Charlie (2007 - 2020)

Charlie allowed death to overtake him today

He'd been slowing down anyway

The old ticker on the blink

Arthritis in his legs and more.

The old trooper staggered on.

Out with me on his final night,

Plodding through the spring grass:

Making our time last.

Thanks Tom. I know how kind you are and thank you so much for your kind wishes. It means so much to me at this time. And you, too, Don.

Holy Sonnets: Death, be not proud
BY JOHN DONNE
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Charlie will have been incredibly grateful to have his best mate by his side for that last walk of so many. You did each other proud John. Never forget that. I hope you're okay tonight.

It was me Tom, me and my good friend Charlie. Feel torn to shreds. We were close friends, across species, for nearly 13 years. You know what it feels like when that connection is broken. John

Ah, a horrible thing to see and experience. Been there and broken by it. If this was you John, my thoughts are with you.
