Biography

An art school dropout from 1970. I am an accidental poet who has been writing for about 4 years. This is the 3rd profile I have done as I inadvertently deleted the first one and the 2nd was no longer relevant. Not to worry, it was time for an update and this explains the reasons. Originally I only performed at one open mic but now I read at as many as I can manage and still stay married. Things are changing in my poetry world. I have been invited to be guest poet at quite a number of venues over the 4 years I have been performing. My collaboration with my mate John 'Blackneck' Matthews was a brilliant time and fulfilled an urge I had to fuse spoken word with music, these days John is busy trying to make a living as a musician, so our collaboration is on the back burner as he will never be rich with a poet as a partner. (heh, heh)

SUBLIMINAL. As you step out of the shower My senses devour Every aspect of you. My thoughts are subliminal, Subliminally criminal. And I want you. I watch you dripping, My morals slipping. And I want you. When I see your perfect face Commanding the space Where my criminal, Subliminal thoughts ache to be. I want you. They flicker and flash, Career and clash, As you flick your hair. And I wish I was there. Holding you. My eyes are hungry for more, Glancing through a crack in the door. And I want to be with you. Showing flashes of skin As you dry yourself down is a sin. I want you. I have thoughts without thinking. I feel drunk without drinking. Waiting for you, wanting you, loving you. You come into the room, and sit on the bed. Now subliminal desire is filling my head. So, I reach over and touch you. I reach over and clutch you to my chest. And I want you. You feel soft to my touch. I want you so much. And I take you, no need to make you respond. We make love on the floor. And I want you even more. Your body still dripping, Two skins slipping, four arms gripping in desire. As passion unwinds. Our bodies entwine After the desire has dissipated. When the passion is sated. I still want you. Forever. © By: - Pete Slater. 2013.

I enjoyed your review of the Middleton night, Peter. It is great to get participants' comments - especially when they are so positive.

Thanks Peter, I am well again. Depression is bad thing to have but when the switch turns back on life is great. I have made contact with my daughter and friends again and back in a routine and writing poetry too. I don't do this when down.

I am due to read on Bishop FM soon. I am taking part in a reading of Anglo Saxon Poetry at Escomb 12th Century Saxon Church on 7th Sept as part of Lindarsfarne gospels events. I read a poem at The Puthon Gallery in Middlesbrough on Friday night. You may have heard of the poets Mandy Maxwell and Nominally known as Morbid. Anyway I have put the poem on sound cloud. Cheers....

Hello Pete - I go along with writing "off the cuff" as it were. Often too much thinking at the outset can interrupt the "flow". However, once the main body of the poem is set down, it is a good idea to go through it - and more than once - to see if some judicious "editing" might improve the odd word or line. Nothing wrong in that. The theme of "Shadows" is touching - and its execution is excellent. One of my recent favourites on this site.

Howdy Pete

An accidental poet, eh? Pleased to make your acquaintance, from a fellow accidental poet. I hadn't written a line until September 2010 but you can't bloody stop me now ;) Good to see you are enjoying the site - I know that I wouldn't have written anywhere near as much as I have without it.

Do you use Facebook at all? We have a Write Out Loud Community page on there, and once a month, our friend Cathy Bryant puts up huge lists of comps and calls for publishing. Even if you don't send anything, they can be great 'prompts' for new poems.

Ooops - meant to give you the link https://www.facebook.com/pages/Write-Out-Loud-Community/260122457345775?fref=ts

We do writing exercises on here once a month too - look out for the next one, mid-month.

Here's another challenge for you, from a previous exercise: http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=33608

Let me know if you write one eh? :)

Happy scribbling!

HI Pete - just a thought -you seem to be blogging several poems at a time and I think this site archives a poem when you upload the next one so we don't get time to read the earlier ones as there's only the latest one up on show ( they also get archived on a monthly basis) I don't access the site every day so I've missed loads of yours ( I'm accessing them via your profile page.

Hi Pete thanks for your message. I enjoy your style of poetry and am looking forward to a poem about repossession ( no pressure there then! ) Keep blogging. XX
