Biography

I am a poet of 6 years' vintage. I write about the interrelationship between man and nature, the power of human feeling, the richness of life and loves. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 7 years ago. I took up writing to help fill the void I feared as to physical activity and music. I had no idea that poetry would become so important to me but it did; it is now my preoccupation, addiction and lifeline. You who have built WOL and made it what it is have in the space of a week helped restore me and given me the energy to keep going. I owe you all. Please accept my thanks and congratulations on so much fine work. I have discovered how exciting it is to have the facility to read a poem and immediately convey my thoughts when the words are still ringing, singing, clinging on. Together you are a small and beautiful world, as good as any. I hope that you think so too. And so many thanks for your nourishing Comments, which have been so welcome.

FREEDOM A man who is free sees the same sky I see but a man who is not free, like a man blind, sees a sky only he sees; so with the running of a stream. A woman who is free hears the same songbirds I hear but a woman who is not free, like a woman deaf, hears birdsong only she can hear; so with the cries of a child. And a child who is free shouts of things of wonder but a child who is not free, like a child dumb, speaks of magic only she feels inside; so with the telling of a tale. Yet the man without freedom sees a leaden-grey sky and a slow brown, brackish brook, while the blind man sees a deep-blue canopy and spangles the stream with silver. And the woman without freedom hears the raven croak and the clay-dry choke of her child, while the deaf woman hears the chatter of chaffinches with the clatter of children at play. And the child without freedom speaks the bile of witches and spits out the pity of her pain, while the dumb child claps hands for the riddles of wizards then sings to her sister lullabies.

Dear Peter

Thank you for kind message and I am humbled to know that you enjoy my work. You give so much to people through your poetry, which I find lyrical, intelligent and moving. The poem 'Freedom' is a great read. I enjoyed Romanticats, although it is inevitably tinged with sadness. Once again, sorry to hear about Ludo.

It has been good to share views with Laura Taylor, who is a fine poet. And Rasa's poems are well worth reading as well.

Wishing you all the best, Peter, and looking forward to more exciting poems coming from your pen.
