Biography
I am a poet, musician, and songwriter. I started teaching later in life but have tauight English as an adjunct in Houston's community colleges for 12 years, thus I am a utter and complete failure and disaster, so I identify more as poet and musician than professor. In truth, I have dealt with too many personal, health, and mental problems over the past 12 years also, and in about 2012, I just (almost) quit writing poetry altogether, seeing it pointless. I have resumed writing poetry again with renewed vigor. I will post old ones I have still retained and new ones on this page, along with lyrics to songs I write that seem noteworthy (and are not just base juvenile tripe).
Stormy Night
Matt Mayo - 5 29 21 Stormy night Thunder rolls Lightning flashes through my home Fills the walls with ghostly lights Casting shadows through curtains drawn tight I'm fortunate to have this home And not be outside in this storm I'm comfortable here inside But I've got no one by my side In my life through storm after storm I've been very fortunate To still have a home Yet still There is really only one thing I've learned It hit me like a bolt of lightning A home can't really be a home Unless you share it with someone you love
