Biography

I'm 36 and a professional piano player. I spend small parts of each month playing current chart hits to the elderly. They must like it because they usually applaud me. At least it sounds like applause. A particular favourite of theirs is my cover of The Killers 'Mr Brightside'. As a teenager, I wrote hundreds of song lyrics about one subject: bad relationships. Now I've grown up a bit and had plenty of life experiences, I'm enjoying writing about anything that comes to mind. Generally, anything BUT bad relationships. I'm just starting out with poetry, but I'm learning that there's almost a limitless potential to get messages across. I'd welcome any feedback and advice and hope to be able to cobble together some sort of a poetry CV soon.

Fate Accomplished He was planning to go with his mates to the fair With the money he’d saved from his newspaper rounds. He’d promised Leanne that he’d lend her a fiver She’d promised to sneak out a six-pack of cider. But crossing the road on the way to the grounds She got killed by a hit-and-run driver. He was planning to bike round the Cape of Good Hope With the money he’d made from a day at the races. The websites applauded its rugged terrain And reviewers confirmed they would visit again. It seemed like the most inspirational of places, But that’s when the heart attack came. He was planning to drive through the tunnel to France With inheritance gained when his mum passed away. He’d booked a hotel with his wife in the centre Of Paris; they’d sleep in a velvet four-poster! But less than a fortnight before the big day She began showing signs of dementia. He was planning to walk to the pub for a drink They were seeing in Christmas with free mince pies! A twilight moment of joy at last? With desolate feelings he thought of the past, And, sighing the sigh of the wordly-wise He decided he couldn’t be arsed.

I loved the rhythm and swing of this, Matt - I could hear the music - and the last line is a killer - had me laughing aloud! "C'est La Vie" might be an alternative title for this! But if at first ... etc ...

Thank you for your comments on my poem "Resolutions - actually the slimy hair isn't the hardest one to keep - I do have a strong stomach - starting my novel is probably the most difficult to see through,!'m afraid!
