Biography

I write poetry and spoken word. I like to perform the work as it seems to come alive more when it is spoken, than when it is read. My work has mostly been about human relationships, however, my newer pieces are becoming more socially and politically engaged. I love the rhythm of spoken word and enjoy watching poets perform. I could listen to stories all day. I think some of my poems are miniature stories. One day I'd like to try writing short stories. My favourite poets are Desiree Dallagiacomo, Stevie Smith, Anne Sexton, Carol Ann Duffy, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Hollie McNish, Shane Koyzchen, and Patti Smith. I am working on new material, and the poems are taking shape. I hope to perform my new work over the next couple of months.

Samples

A Thought In general, Overall, Consequently, I will be something else Eventually. The Reluctant Muses I slake my thirst with you. I rake brittle fingers along the spine of your brow. I reach out a hand, You frown. You're a neon blur, A snake dance coiled in defence. My thirst is clipped, You're a bucket of sand to my lips. I retreat to look out of the window, and trace the condensation against the pane, of where you stood so close to me. I stroke a pencil across my collarbone in memory of you and wonder if I only imagine how we collided across that room, above the voices, the hustle, the wine, and why? You hand me your pen and say 'This, this, this. What else is there?' You've changed my brain. You have me writing poetry again. I Am Awake Thoughts of you Stain the crease of my smile Like blackcurrant On summer fingers. Your skin, A delight. I taste myself in your mouth, In the pulse of your thumb. We undulate, Helix and arc, We curve, We bridge, We arch, And we are river, moss, bark. Tonight The shape of my tongue, The shape of my teeth Remember you I am awake, And now You are too.
