Biography

My writing is a journey of discovery. I learn so much about myself, the world and what it means to be a member of the human race every time I put pen to paper. I am enjoying my travels and have gaining so much knowledge from all my fellow writers along the way - thank you. Long may my journey continue.

Samples

The Shed A shed that my father built sits in the sunshine, The youth of the neighbourhood there gather and mix, Each evening they moan about parents and homework, Enthuse over alcohol, music and sex. The songs of Madonna blast out on the tape deck, Shouting to adults, 'You're not welcome here!', Within brown walls of wood with a taste of cheap cider, The sharing of hormones and sweat keeps all clear. Fear of the future and where it may take them, Fear of appearing to be who they are, Of not fitting in, of being an outcast, To the song of a virgin I sit where they are. In a shed, in a garden there once sat tomorrow, We hid from our future and laughed at old age, That's now just a memory, a shared past of friendship, The future's caught up and it lives on this page.

just to say thanks for your liking of On the High Plains!

It was a dream in the sense that there is the hope of something dreamlike unable to be confirmed; but I twisted that line into a trap for the mind!!

HI Jackie, Thanks for your kind comment on the ramblings, good to know others can relate - the injustice of being punished when you don't know what for, unforgettable ;). I'm sure I've probably given my own kids some similar memories...

Oh lord,
you're really too kind. Thank you for reading. :)

I think that being vulnerable is a huge part of all artforms, and most art is humanity clawing its way out. I'm just lucky that words and I have gotten along so far.

writing, like life, can hurt. It can be an uncomfortable admission to yourself and to other people, but usually it's for the better. Steps forward on glass are better than none at all. Or at least that's what I think right now.

morning/evening jaqueline

I'm smiling like an idiot that you called Raycharles a 'piece.' If I was pretentious I'd describe it as a satire of found poetry, but it's really literally a personal conversation copied, pasted, and reformatted to make it readable. But it is verbatim: it was a bad night with a good ending.

Sometimes my life feels like somebody's making it up, and when I'm talking to someone my mouth moves like I'm an actor, before I even have a chance to think about what I want to say.

If you want to know more about Raycharles, there are some other things way way way back that I wrote like loveletters before I was on WoL that I imported onto here. They are all named 'Ray Charles' followed by a number. http://writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=45923

Just went over your new pieces. I would love to hear R.A.M. recited -- I, too, suffer the malady of a drifting mind. The problem is finding the surface again, sometimes.

Lady Spodden is simply fantastic -- very well paced and the language is fucking perfect. genuinely, i'm impressed and humbled.

sure. I'm not very good at recital -- part of the reason why I'm here in the first place-- but I can give it a shot.

pick one.

Jackie, Thanks for the comment on 'Pringles Bladder', glad you liked it, to be honest I prefer to write (and perform) 'less cerebral' narrative poetry as would rather make people smile than make them think.

I should have written 'Do Not Try This At Home' on the bottom ;o)

Glad to hear that the shed your father built is still standing, Jacqueline. I enjoyed this sample poem, full of wisdom and humour. And I was pleased that you enjoyed 'Tewkesbury Abbey', too. Thanks for your comments. Greg

Hi Jacqueline, and welcome to WOL. Your sample poem really struck me. I found it intelligent, grittily wistful and honest. It has good rhythm, nothing "forced" and I'm sure will appeal to many readers. I look forward to seeing/reading more of your work on the blogs page. I hope you will find that WOL is a useful, friendly and supportive community and that you enjoy all the facilities it has to offer.

Regards,
A.E. .
