I'm a young, female poet living in Scotland. I love telling stories through poetry and I love to hear other people's stories. Much of my work has a strong focus on themes such as gender, in particular women and the way they are treated in society, fragility and healing. I'm very happy to be part of such a wonderful online community! This poetry is a blend of fact and fiction, a mixture of my own personal experiences and the experiences of people I have worked with, and met.
REBIRTH I grace the running water With lavender oil, Magnesium salts, rose petals That heal and care for the broken body. The aroma of a forbidden garden rises. Droplets streak the mirror And, in my ritualistic way, I dip a toe in first, Then my hand, The perfect temperature. I submerge myself in the water. The petals gently caress my back. I scrub my legs with sea kelp soap, That stings my wounds But the water removes that pain, Casts it away. Handel’s water music blurs As my head slips underwater, I find a new world But am drawn back for the crescendo. I glance at the time: 11:37. The day is almost gone, And I step out of the bath. Breathlessly I whisper my mother’s words In an empty house “Wash away the sins of today and you are ready for the new day.”
