TYNESIDE TOUGHENED Much like the windows of the 24 bus, I am Tyneside Toughened. I was raised on a council estate with a mindset of fight and try as I might, I can't. I'm not that kind of person. I was bullied from the age of 4 till 16 and never once raised a fist to resist that which I assumed was my fault. I lived in a place where dog eat dog was more than just a phrase and praise for a good job was something you never received and if you were bereaved then you were just told to get over it... I was different than most kids because my anxiety prevented the variety of things that children do... so I would write. I would write about life and the irrationality of the finality of things when in reality, my personality was fucked. I sucked. I'll have a seizure in my brain which tells me to stop..... breathe and shut fuck up before I say something stupid because when I talk, the disputed intelligence I have is gone. So this is me.... shutting the fuck up. SHOT 17 years old. Walking home after going to the store for skittles and more. It's a cold night so up goes the hood. He sits in his truck... following that teen. His face mean, the teen watched by the guard unseen. Racial profiling at work ladies and gentlemen. He gets out and gives chase, no crime committed. His prey he's seen. 7:16... gunshot... in george's mind, that must mean “TANGO DOWN!” 7:30.. One innocent teen. His flame snuffed out by a trigger happy lout. On July 13 2013, what do I see... Not Guilty. Travesty. Mr Z off the hook. In the US, all it takes is a look... a bullet... a shot. In a month, this case forgot.

Hi Aaron - welcome to WOL. Be great if you felt like putting some of your poems on the blogs section. More people see them there than on the profile page.
