Professional

How can we make parliament more professional?
this question was asked on the news tonight
A question that surely should not need to be asked
in any workplace that was managed right

Surely our government is the highest office
where the examples should be set
Surely parliament is the most important workplace
where rule compliance should be met

View From 30,000 Feet

Looking down from 30,000 feet
racing at high speed across the sky
Like rippled snowy ski tracks
fluffy white clouds play tricks on the eye

A layer of stippled icing peaks
or a sea of cotton wool
A thick smothering of shaving foam
or white shag pile deep and full

Now there is a change in formation
mistaken for land meeting sea
Resembling an icy ocean
where small icebergs have b...

Snapshot

Relaxing by the tranquil pool
watching wispy white clouds float by
Mesmerised by the swaying fronds
of palm trees reaching to the sky

The water gurgles and bubbles
shimmering in the bright sunlight
A snapshot for my memories
too soon it will be out of sight

Yorkshire Sunrise

Peering over the horizon
the sun sets fire to the morning sky
In vast fields of rich emerald green
animals gently graze as I pass by

Cherry Blossom

Soak up this beautiful image
delicate blossom of cherry trees
Soon petals will fall like confetti
and carry away on the breeze

Quite magical to see the colour
these towering giants bring
A picture perfect moment
epitomising spring in full swing

Ding Dong

Ding ding dong the blue bells are out
their sweet fragrance wafts on the breeze
The best time for a woodland walk
under the shade of leafy trees

Woodlands carpeted in a sea
dancing blue flows over the hills
Each flower delicately shaped
with its’s funnel and fancy frills

For Jo

The first night of our holiday
in the bar taking part in a quiz
We sit next to a friendly couple
drinking a beer and a gin fizz

We didn’t get the highest score
and didn’t win the prize of the night
But we had a good laugh between us
at the answers we didn’t get right

Over the week we met up often
in the bars, restaurants and cafes
We chatted about this and that
shared stories of ...

Poolside

Pool water bubbles and gurgles
from underwater jet streams
The relaxing swooshing sound
floods into my dozy dreams

In and out of consciousness
I drift through the laziest day
Reading, sleeping, reading, sleeping
many hours spent this way

Resting on my hotel sun bed
feeling the breeze soft and light
Gazing at the palest blue sky
where the sun shines high and bright

The familiar...

Too Hot

It has been quite a while
since I said I’m too hot
But it’s thirty degrees
making this a hot spot

I am taking some shade
and trying to keep cool
But It’s too hot today
for lazing by the pool

Its too hot for walking
and too hot for working
It's too hot for anything
except sunshade bathing

Morning Stroll

A morning walk along the shore
the calm sea sparkles and glimmers
Gently washing over black sand
fine dust that glistens and shimmers

We pass luxurious hotels
with beautiful garden displays
There’s a few people on the beach
soaking up the warmth of sun rays

Men fish from giant rugged rocks
eroded over time and tide
Young and old walk, run and jog
some take a scenic cycle ride

Glowing Embers

That moment when the new day arrives
dawn breaks on the distant horizon
The sky burns bright like glowing embers
to welcome and greet the rising sun

Daytime creatures slowly awaken
as the night gently turns into day
Those that prefer the darkness of night
retreat to slumber the day away

Cherry Blossom

Beautiful cherry blossom
catching the morning light
Soft pink floral splendour
sensational spring delight

Winter may have its magic
but what makes my soul sing
Is the sight of new blooms
and the promise that spring brings

Blackpool Sunset

A late evening scene from Blackpool
spectacular sunset last night
Reflecting in the distant sea
golden glow of shimmering light

Gazing across this famous view
my mind drifts back quite happily
Reminding me of childhood days
enjoyed here with my family

Spectacular Show

Sometimes nature puts on a spectacular show
it takes your breath away
I stop and take in this morning scene
the most picturesque start to the day

Fiery skies, whose beauty is doubled
as the lake reflects it’s golden glow
A swan elegantly glides by
across the rippling waters below

The wild birds are awakening
providing us with the best wake up call
Eyes and ears now fully satisf...

Rule Maker, Law Breaker

Those of us of a certain age
will remember The Kids From Fame
In the early nineteen eighties
their bright songs set the world aflame

This morning one came to my mind
an ear worm popped into my head
The original lyrics changed
to some different words instead

The new version has a chorus
which is not so cheery and bright
It possibly could cause offence
as it is a tad impolite

Dramatic Scene

Two beautiful warriors
this mornings battle has begun
Creating a dramatic scene
between the grey skies and rising sun

Intense clouds that promise rain
gather in the heavenly skies
The dawn sun sets them ablaze
to bring us this glorious sunrise

Reflecting the skies overhead
below the lake is calm and clear
Carried on the gentle breeze
the sound of birdsong is all I hear

Phot...

Monumental Disgrace

The harrowing news continues
to shock, disgust and terrify
Tales of the most evil war crimes
appall, anger and horrify

Russia proclaims that it’s all lies
and I think I would say the same
If my army’s reputation
was now one of ultimate shame

A soldier has a job to do
and that is to serve and protect
Their brave and loyal duty
carried out with honor and respect

It would see...

Magnolia

Tis the season for magnolia blooms
flowery cups reaching towards the sun
Creamy pink, deep purple and brilliant white
heralding warmer, brighter days to come

April days bringing all four seasons
delicate petals brave the sleet and snow
Their time may be ever so fleeting
still they perform this magnificent show

Tired

I’m tired so tired
no words of mine are good enough
no writes of mine are good enough
I’m tired so tired
no thoughts of mine are good enough
no acts of mine are good enough
I’m tired so tired
no face of mine is good enough
no look of mine is good enough
I’m tired so tired
The sleep I get is not enough
The rest I get is not enough
I’m tired so tired

Delightful Show

Thick mist has shrouded the landscape
the young sun is just appearing
It peeps over the horizon
to greet this beautiful morning

The sky a gorgeous hue of peach
creates a molten honey glow
As the brand new day awakens
it brings us this delightful show

Hyacinth

A Mother’s Day gift
casually picked up at the checkout till
Three bulbs in a cardboard pot
took pride of place on my window cill

Steadily they grew taller every day
stout, sturdy and strong
Thick stems holding up large blue heads
surrounded by leaves wide and long

Revealing clusters of blue stars
fragrant florets burst wide open
Soon the air was filled with scent
a sweet, intoxi...

The Prince and King Rat

Once upon a time
in a land not too far away
People lived their lives
in a free and happy way

Their leader a Prince amongst men
smart, brave and strong
His countrymen praised him
to them he could do no wrong

Their close neighbours
came from “the land of make believe”
Ruled by a corrupt dictator
whose mission was to deceive

He was an monstrous ogre
a ruthless, greedy billionair...

The Air Of Spring

Last week the pretty trees blossomed
it felt like spring was in the air
Now it feels more like winter
those fragile blooms scattered everywhere

The sunshine brought out bright colours
the butterflies, bees and flowers
Now the gloomy grey has returned
as we dodge harsh, wintry showers

------

If I could be a super hero
I would be the “Air of Spring”
I’d sprinkle rays of hope an...

Early To Bed

Early to bed
and late to rise
still my face shows
these tired eyes

At 4 o’clock
I’m wide wake
a bad habit
that’s hard to break

I try to sleep
but my mind reels
Round and round
like a hamster wheel

Hot chocolate
and milky drinks
don’t help me
get my forty winks

Over the gate
I count the sheep
no sure way
to a full nights sleep

To reach my dream
I hope and pray

Wordle And Quordle

I try to do a word puzzle
each and every day
Wordle and Quordle
are my favourite games to play

Start with five empty squares
fill with any word you may choose
The letters you enter
determines if you win or lose

If the letter turns orange
move it to another space
If your letter turns bright green
it means it’s in the right place

There are no clues to be had
luck plays an im...
