Christmas Music

Christmas music - it's now time to hear,
As we all celebrate this time of year.
It makes us happy and merry and jolly,
As it's time to be silly and full of folly.

It takes us into the festive mood,
Before all the parties and the food.
We delight in the wonderful atmosphere,
For it shows that Christmas is finally here.

Some songs are slow while some are fast,
It's just so great that we...

The second verse never lived

up to the first, so

one clear-eyed morning

he broke up the band.

Cites musical differences

with himself.

Duets come and go, concepts

run clean out of notes.

Down at a crossroads

some fella suggests solo

is the only way

to maintain direction.

Landing

On a landing I do dwell

Freshly carpeted and ready to sell

Just me and the velux between the stars

How I wish I could see that far

With Guitar in hand, I do dwell

My own escape from living hell

Strumming into the deep of night

Without a sound nor a light

In my head, I do dwell

Whispering softly like a sweet smell

Contorting in the dark

As calm as a wolf's...

On Celeste.

Tonight, I saw Celeste. Accompanied by only four musicians, she scuttled on to the stage in something akin to a child’s knee-length princess gown, though stained by smoke and nicotine; symbolic of the loss of innocence and naivety that we all go through as we plunge into the darkness that we call being grown up. There was no pretence, no inhabiting any character. She bore her soul as though naked ...

Raise the Blade

Sometimes I venture out on the coldest day

And deliberately underdress

In hopes that the wind will freeze me

Those pinpricks up and down the flesh

The open isolation

The stillness and obstructed view

The fog, the unknown

And revel in the freedom of it all

Sometimes I sit on the edge of the bed

And open the door out to the landing

And look into the darkness

To ...

Watch With Me

Lost guitars, recovered souls
Music of the stories told
Carry far away the stars
Bring the moon, it can't be far
Embers rise from the sea
Broken pieces away from me
Water flows although it’s still
I’m oddly calm as I drink my fill
Of stars and grass
Of sea and sound
Of the world that we have found
Listen closely to the ground
Feel the warmth all around
The sky is melting as we speak
...

I Love ye Scowsers!

Joy so swiftly’s turned to sadness, now,

what heavy hearts for Liverpool, these days.

Along the Strand I’ve walked with dad,

he loved it there, up Water Street,

pints in pubs, their voices music to our ears,

real wit and wisdom, working folks’ true class:

they’ll never walk alone, those hearts of gold.

Samba

a solo drum
the soft breeze drifting
light reflects from capirihina glasses
vocals awaken
waves waving goodbye for the night
sand resting in it's place
two blocks away
ganzas begin to shake
voices whisper
footsteps tap
goodnight sun
Hello Rio.

Greater

I looked at her, her angel voice still playing in the sound room.

She sat surrounded by the band, just like we always do.

Her songs were mesmerizing, she had everything to make it,

and in that moment God gave me this truth -

“No matter what, the songs we make are greater than the artists”.

The words came out as if it wasn’t me.

Then she and I met eye to eye, we knew the t...

Do You Feel The Music

Do you feel the music?

Does it capture in your soul

the feelings that got lost in there

as you’ve played out your role?

Have you ever sat and listened,

let it take you far away?

Well, I’ve done it time and again

and I can clearly say -

that nothing else compares.

It’s like a portal out of time,

where you can let things go and heal,

submerged in the sublim...
