She suffers with her dreams.
In the shipwreck, there's a limpet

Becoming fluent is painfully slow.
And as normal as split ends.
She suffers with her dreams.

Upright as a queen,
she's all that makes me king.
But lain beyond the grey boundary
she's prey to envoys from the years,
muttering ballads fraught with discord.
I hold fast. She suffe...

Dark Mystery

He can't remember what she wore that night, or her name

But he can retrace every step he climbed to where he knew she waited,

The stipples on the cool iron rails sliding through his hand on that warm summer eve

No hint of sweat in his palms as he approached, relaxed, calm, sensing rising tension

He stopped, almost at the top of the steps

There she stood, his invocation, his inv...

The sneezathon was quite an affair

with every sneeze recorded there.

To be eligible and part of the fold,

everyone had to be full of cold.

For safe excretion tissues were issued

every excretion counting as one

A SPLIT LIP

It’s only recently I started to ask myself

the reasons why my upper lip is split –

initially just a narrow, shallow slit but left alone

to care for itself and so to slowly stretch and grow.

I don’t pretend to be one of those who claim

the right to tease for human frailties.

I too may look too long in a mirror and do not mock

Chiedza: Reflections book launch 29/04/2019

So many emotions going through my body. 27/04/2019, the day I’ll never forget. Preparations taken, money invested, roads travelled, tissues abused by my overjoy tears and moments of reflection, frustration, fun and all things in between. A road well-travelled. So much learnt and appreciated, loads more to be grateful for, what can a girl wish for.

In the Light of Love

In The Light of Love

As dust the mirror, smoke the fire,
All is hidden in fear and desire.

As I lie here in bed, feeling darkly oppressed,
It is merely the tombstone that lies on my chest.
And if now I feel sorrow, or longing or rage,
At least my heart is awake to the bars of its cage.

For if there is longing,
It is longing for that which can never
Ease the longing.
And if there is...

Rite of Passage

Half-dead, wrapped and sealed in a dusty cocoon

Half-alive, I can feel my senses slowly awakening

And I hearken the wide world outside beckoning

It looks as if I am to hatch and break out soon

I will squint a bit in shock to the incandescent sun,

stretch my sore muscles and my brand new wings,

then I'll come find you my doted love, my only one!

Coyly I'll whisper to you all...

My Fifty Second Birthday Treat

The total candles on the cake, numbered fifty-two.

I couldn't extinguish fifty-two flames no matter how hard I blew.

The heat became tremendous as the flames grew higher & higher.

The birthday treat turned from a cake into a ball of fire.

Once all the wax had melted, the inferno then decreased.

I could tell by the looks on faces, that no one wanted a piece.

Where they chit and they chat, or play and have fun,

Now it's rare to see a mermaid, and you may never again,

so to see a whole shoal is a rareness x 10.

But this is what happened, or so it is told,

Her Self Love

Hi, she said with one big sigh, the day was difficult and she held in her cry

She was shy but always found her way with the bad guy who always liked to lie

Wishing for something new b/c she wanted to finally turn the blind eye

On her cycle of men; realized that it was her making herself feel this way, she was high

On the fact that someone was always there but still felt lonel...

Murmurs of love

The touch of heaven

A feeling that no one feels alone

Is deep within this heart

What  can only be adored

All around the world

Only four words that means more

Is love only that can bring us near

Whenever darkness looms around

Fog of cries and rain of suffering spreads beyond

There and there only a hand can give the strength

To fight all that away

Doors closing

Love

a term I seldom use

Summer clothes

Packed in tight

Memories

A voice declares

"Doors closing"

Faces stilled

Such quiet

hushed phenomena

What would our ancestors

make of this crushing

closet?

Strangers allowing strangers

their Intimate space

Expelled air

The body's breath

A nervous cough suppressed

A weary sigh

WITHIN LIES THE SIN

We live with sickness despite moving on

Beyond the ignorance our ancestors looked upon

And accepted as being a part of the life

They lived - praying that they might evade the knife.

But even today with human knowledge increasing

By the hour...by the day - via research unceasing,

It makes me wonder if illness is like a sin

Caused by our folly - from without and within.

End of the World

I breathed in the cold and hardened my heart,

I flew with wings made of bone and crystal tears

I walked in a desolate gallery of unknown art,

And shouted with impudence in spite of fears

I bound my sorrow tightly and didn't let it squirm

I laughed at the silence just to hear a voice

But shuddered when the dark answered in return

Should have stayed silent, now regret my ch...

A Journey Forward

I do not fear being carried aloft

with all cares cast aside with me enwrapt

Sprinkled with holy water to cleanse

to fly on the wings of angels to him who sent me

No regret shall accompany this onward journey

only the bells that ring the memories of times past

There is a type of loss that embodies the feeling of standing still while everything around you is in motion.

This kind of loss stalks memories and preys on helpless moments of joy like a stealthy predator.

It is a cup of sand for a thirst so unbearable;

A full-body dizziness,

Nausea so intense that it hurts.

It is an unnatural fear that paralyzes one’s existence.

There is a loss...

Hello from the other side,
from protected words, created lights,
as something small,
something right,
distant signal, so hard to recognize.
I don't feel I can...no I can't,
I can't really write tonight.

Hello from the city streets,
purple in the deep, fading lights
with contrast of white on white,
shattered through the dark,
broken in their half,
epitomized.
I am sorry cause I can't...

I have inherited the gift

Of charming snakes.

I tame them. I make them dance.

But they would be wrong.

I breathe in and out

Slowly.

I sway from side to side

I fix them with my gaze

Complacency

Locked in a steel cage,
No where to run and hide.
A public spectacle,
Running in circles but going nowhere.
Stuck in a rutt,
Is there more to life than these four walls?
Thinking outside the box was unheard of,
Life seemed to be pre-established.
Complacency is the new smoking,
Satisfying in the moment but won't fulfill a destiny.
Only a select few can choose to live different,

Spaces in time
All in my mind
But I can't seem to find what is lingering close behind.
There are monsters somewhere near
Can't you hear?
Whispering things, like nightmares in your dreams
It's so scary,

So now I'm hiding
I'm hiding in my mind
Lost in time
Cause I am sacred of what I might find,

Dream Boat

Let the dreamless boy to cry
If his wish to fly has gone
How his tears going to dry
If he stays far of sun

Ask dreamless boy be awake
That the dream, is a part of us
Tell him: "think of a better talk"
And to change the dark glass

Help dreamless boy to be here
And clear his negative thought
Once he comes to hear or share
He will enjoy to dream in a boat
