Let the anticipation build Let the angst grow inside your gut Allow it to rumble and tumble and wreck havoc on your insides Feel the magnetic pull when we lock eyes a little bit too long and struggle to break away Watch me watching you while trying to hide your prying eyes Don't you dare rush a thing

Paralysis

entry picture

In your dream you are paralysed, silent

Here's a shadow behind this mountain

Scurry down into the winter-valley

Dried up, shrivelled, weather-beaten,

Rock- hidden fossils, set in stone,

Evolutions of Medusa

Afflicted by a petrified decay.

All she gazed upon

Can never be rubbed away.

Such stains dry and calcify

Deep in these highland bogs

A quagmire-swamp of guilt, ...

Us and Them

I don’t keep the curtains drawn in the summer,

being at the rear,

the sitting room is not overlooked and

I like to watch the day slide away,

the trees briefly silhouetted until darkness

smothers the garden’s subtle colours.

I wasn’t expecting lightening

it wasn’t forecast, just one flash

both surprising and rather disappointing

the blackness turning to a negative

DISCOVERY

I used to sit and watch the sea

its closeness to eternity

with all my thoughts centred on self

in a rush, in a rush

like the waves' rough and tumble

of seeming confusion -

an endless discussion;

neither the sky nor the water gave way

yet all the elements had their say.

For myself encased in a world without end

my lonely voices would never blend

The Weight

Bottled emotions are heavy,

the weight can keep your mind unsteady.

Unbalanced,

you stand the chance of tipping over.

Indeed so,

those emotions will spell over,

expelling another

load off your shoulders,

and peace of mind

your soul will soon discover.

How To Be Alone

Waiting for a friend
sipping tea, sunglasses on
passers-by double and disappear
as reflections in shop windows
everything lit golden
then dimmed behind my lenses
I stir the drink some more

Waiting for a friend
they’re half an hour late now
I barely notice
just watch the people
let my mind wander
the liquid turning in the cup

And it hits me, squarely, there

Peculiarly British X?

I've only just been told,

That in messages or texts,

It's peculiarly British,

To sign off with an X,

So don't misunderstand,

We mean no disrespect,

We don't mean to be forward,

We're not offering sex,

It's just a friendly gesture,

Attempting to inflect,

A gentle nod to friendship,

So thank you, XXX.

And we will meet again, when God is our host.

But for now the reason God gave us a heart.

Is to fill it with memories if loved ones depart.
