Are you an incurable romantic?

Do you need an escort when you go out

To prevent you falling prey to love?

Have you had counselling

For your love addiction?

Do they tell you

There’s no hope

Then pat you on the head and go?

Do you suffer from a form of Tourettes

That makes you shout

I LOVE YOU at the top of your voice

Til people, shocked by your behaviour,

Stand back and stare?

Are you tagged with a pink Love Heart

Around your ankle?

And is there a curfew to keep you safe indoors

When all the pretty girls go by?

Are you a Care in the Community Romantic?

Do social workers come to visit

And make you cups of tea

And try to talk you out of love?

Don’t listen sweetheart,

What do they know?

We romantics are so . . .

Vulnerable.

We give our hearts like others

Buy a copy of the Big Issue,

A little questioning then,

Yes! We know it’s the right thing to do!

We romantics have to stick together

So when the thought police come

I’ll get you out of room 101.

I’ll be like Emma Peel and

I’ll distract the guard

And meet you in our secret place.

I’ll wear a green carnation

So you‘ll know it’s me.

But please make haste!

For we romantics

Have no time to waste!

And as you well know

Love is all,

my darling,

Love is all!

And finally!I knew before I listened,that this would be beautifully read,and you have allowed me to stay on my chair at the end..you really are a wonderful reader.For me,staying head over heels in love(we say arse over tit 'int norf')beats the cold and tediousnes-ness-ness into a cocked hat any day-SURELY? so there...hee hee..xSxtxexfxaxn-(G-xx)

oh yes ann i think all of us can be secret romantics we are all human after all and grow up with the idea of romance but it doesn't always live up to our expectations unfortunetly ! love bernadette xx your words are cleverly put together ..good poem

Very well thought-out poem Ann.Its ...mm..third on my list of my faves by you-first being'Twine' second 'Doxy' then this one-am Speakerless in the Rhondda at present so I certainly wont miss out on the audio whenst verily back on home ground-gonna listen to it starkers for a change-let it wash all over my scrawny bod! thanks for your bright bushy tailed ongoing kindnesses-sss-love you to BITS! I'm not sure many people would easily buy a copy of the big issue Ann - you are showing your big heart again!
I think there are more romantics around than we realise - they just learn to hide it. I think us humans all need to be wanted and loved - love can bring with it such problems though - and hurt. That is probably too serious a comment for a light hearted poem. I liked your handling of it.

A tongue in cheek tribute to all of us who think that the world is a bit cold and tedious if we are not head over heels in love.
