Your Eyes Tell the Truth

Love shall ever be known
Through your tender side;
Your proud eyes have shown
What your words couldn’t hide.
I set a tempting atmosphere:
Your beauty meets my charms!
I ask for what I long to hear,
But you escape my arms.
I try to soften your heart
By lovely words and tokens;
For many days, I part
Yet again, you seem outspoken!
But even though your words defy,
Your eyes show what you deny!

Appreciate Life

entry picture
At three in the morning, I rose from bed:
Craving to cure my ongoing thirst,
Still feeling the anger in the words I said
During the intense spousal outburst.
The covers hid winter’s effect,
I realized, after rising from bed.
She is under the cover: I could not detect
Whether my rage crafted her death:
Her words were kinder than dew hitting flowers,
Her embrace was warmer than fire;
She spoke keenly about love, mostly ours;
She was my ultimate desire:
“If you live one more day, I shall be
Perfectly tolerant and kind;
If you speak once more to me,
I shall live to thrill your mind.
How could I have been unaware
Of mortality and of life’s worth?
How come I showed no care
While you were, with me, on earth?
The heavens must be delighted
To have captured your soul.
The angels have now sighted
The fairest creature of all.”
I whispered her name, so gently
To get her back from death;
I am afraid she would rise abruptly,
Taking frightened breaths.
But I can be tolerant no more:
I might have seen her last.
Wake up, speak up and speak for
Our beautiful days of the past:
She kindly woke up and smiled
In a moment that brought back life!
I walked up to heaven, like a child:
My world bloomed; “she is alive”!

Remember to enjoy the days you share with people while they are alive, for it is such a pleasant "co-incidence" that we are all, now, alive, at the same moment.

Hya Zahi....
Thankyou for your comments. I read your poetry and enjoyed it all...it's sometimes difficult to hear how the writer would read it, but I could hear your voice in it. I especially like 'samples' because it's so true that people find it so hard to drop their defences and it reminded me of a Gil Scott-Heron track...'When you are who you are"

Take Care
