carbon-based
biped
likes it in his
bed
Currently living just outside of Lichfield
Brummie by birth (sort of)
fearless
you have made me brave
there is nothing in this world
that scares me now
accept lions
and also moths
and spiders
creatures in general
And the dark
(so please don’t send me out into the garden at night to fetch stuff or put things in the dustbin or anything like that)
But accept for those things
– the fear of creatures and the dark –
there is nothing in this world that scares me now
although it is worth you knowing that i am not too good with wobbly ladders
Gambian holiday new year 2000
I have travelled
so very far
I have travelled
to Africa
I’m not brave
no?
No, it’s a package holiday
Sunny holy days (it’s Ramadan)
Oh so far
to Africa
Two and a half million miles (maybe)
to the welcoming smiles
of the Coca-Cola company
here to feast exotic style
roast beef Yorkshire : baked beans toast : hamburger
mango trees
paper Christmas trees
locals; cats
and all that
on Millennium eve
here is Steve
with his Em
this is the stem
of something greater
coming later
as the fireworks glow
we both know
that the thing on your finger
will make these memories linger
happily planted between
back to front toilets
and Orion the clearest I’ve seen
the chaps on the beach
with ornate crap to sell
keeping their distance : you want juice?
because hotel security men have truncheons : no juice thanks
and navy jumpers
Jumpers! we wear our shorts
Oh but that night
back in the nineties
all wearing silver hats
all looking like twats
plur go the blowers
plurflop go the curly ones
under African sky
you and I
know.
On the possible discovery of liquid water on Mars in the year 2000 and its impact on the further exploration of that planet by humankind
Hoorahs
Water on Mars
Which is lucky ’cos cars
And things have poisoned ours
All for a fiver
i have seen it
yes.
It was there,
outside and within
in his eyes i knew
that i could die,
right there on that pavement
right there.
Death smells of cheap aftershave
and adrenalin.
They (the all knowing they)
say
that your life flashes before your eyes.
Realise
this:
it does not.
No, you are too busy
trying not to die
trying to deny
what is there in his eye.
Right there.
Reclaim it.
Reframe it.
Re-adjust
the dust
of your being
and then
well, then you
RUN
LIKE
HELL.

Hi Steve. You enquired about a god sound recorder. I think 'audacity' is very good and easy to use.
all the breast, I mean best sorry
Pete
hey steve!
why have i not read your poems before?? well i don't know because they are really rather groovy..
'my life ensuing' is so simple in its topic, but so perceptive - i've felt like that - and still do about my other half. It always amazes me when i read someone elses words that totally encapsulate something that i feel or have felt.. but then isn't that the beauty of poetry?
Regime Change handles a really serious topic in such a fresh and interesting way.. i will be checking out your work again!
cheers
- with reference to 'my life ensuing' and 'allegiance' were my comments btw
or scrabble
or i like to dabble in
sin
am i not a citizen
if i do not wear red white and fox skin
and put my hand to my chest
and profess
undying love and duty
to his lordship’s beauty?
----------
that is a brilliant 1/4 and full stanza!
I like the 'I do not' assertion
Would like to hear this performed
I hope we can find you a platform to develop and showcase your words.
If you find an event, and I can get down there, ill try and join you if it helps the nerves, Ill ask a few more poets and we could drive down.
Ill ask Paul (from WOL) if he knows any stuff down there.
Great poems
I also like the idea of the summer patio I think that it sets the scene for the sexual tension and release in which the poem goes on to imply.
Theres something about patios / bbqs in summer that is sexual
I think its the girls in the summer dresses that does it for me.
roll on stick summers
and shopping in supermarkets following the scant clad housewifes!
lets do a poem about it!
great to see you on the site Mr Stephen.

Hi Steve
The guy who has just joined, Jim Kennedy has something to do with "The Sunday Xpress" which apparently has moved from The Market Tavern (as you know) and is now at the Adam And Eve,
Bradford Street, Birmingham B12 0JD - The last one was on 18th and I've asked him for details about the next one.
