MUM AND DAD BY JUNE SLATER

With ice cold wind upon my face
My feet tread this sad, lonely place

My memories of the days gone before come to mind
As I walk the wet, muddy grass, their grave to find

What can one do or say
With only thoughts in mind
Of happier times?

I bend and remove flowers, shrivelled
And replace with fresh colours
To brighten up and show my love is still here

If they can see me, in whatever form
I hope they see all the love and heartache I still carry

For no matter how long I walk and live
I would give anything to have them back here with me on Earth

Until a time in the future when I hope we meet again
I give thanks for my birth
For through them and God I live.

Iron Man's Thoughts Published by United Press 2008 in Angle's Breath

This is the photo that inspired me to write this poem.

Iron Man's Thoughts (my interpretation)

I stand and gaze out to sea with sand beneath my feet

An Iron Man is all I am, to some I am a treat

How people stop, look and stare, and wonder at my all

I can only portray an image of my maker

To him, therefore, I stand tall

I see the ships that pass my way

And how cold I sometime feel

When dark wintry skies arrive

And yet I do not chill

I am a thing of wonder, a beauty in Iron form

If I can make you think for one minute, what I am about

Then my journey is not forlorn

Take me in and cherish me for my journey is not complete

I travel in anticipation of those I've yet to meet

I give to you a picture, one that will change with each coming tide

It's individual to you so please keep it locked inside

For I am made by man in his image

A wonder that  is complete

I stand and stare and look to the sea

The horizon just out of reach

HI June
Thanks so much. I am just checking in. Seems I cant stay away from this place. Your poems are very nice.If you get a chance to go to a poetry gig with Peter, I know he would like it very much. Boys need there Moms. I hope someday to get back to England for a visit and Id love to have some lunch and tea with you. I was there about 4 years ago. It was nice but so cold and rained all the time. I guess I came at the wrong time of year. I got to visit Manchester and Southport and a few other places. Was nice, in ways I felt at home, except for the cold and rain. Im off to watch for bad weather now,we are told to expect rain and high winds as hurricane Ike is about to make land fall. Im about 5 hours away from the coast, to the north, in Texas. In a city named Dallas. Hope you stay well and have a nice fall season. XX Clarissa

HI June, happy to have you here! Your poems are very nice. The one about your parents can be felt in the hearts of everyone. It seems as we grow, parents take on different roles. We idolize them as little children. We grow to not care for their company as teens, as when we are teens we know it all. Then if we become parents we feel what our parents did for us. I guess about 40 or so we wish we could move the clock back for them as at that point we have grown enough to really apreciate what they did for us. The we lose them and regret forever the lost time and conversations we could have, should have had. I have 2 boys and a girl and already see whats going on, all teenagers. The poem Mothers day is very nice, I think Mothers day should be every day! Glad your here to share your out- look on the world and life! Clarissa
