One night

Moonlight lights my night
Daylight lights my day
There’s always a source of light
Total darkness is not the way

The lonely wolf howls at the moon
Howling in lonely despair
Colours woven in the loom
Of Twilight colours rare

An owl hoots within the night
Before swooping upon his prey
A meal of such delight
Before the light of day

An alley cat prowls the night
And screams a dreadful sound
He readies for a fight
Balls of fur fly all around

A single bird begins to sing
As others join the song
The dawn chorus begins to ring
And fills the sky with song

A ball of light begins to shine
Bringing a brand new day
Upon the horizon line
And the future comes my way

Patterns

Posted on Friday 11th September 2009 11:55 am

Letters of alliteration littering my mind

Sounds of assonance go ouch upon my brow

Words go swimming upon a written line

End line rhyming: how but why not now?

Stressed out syllables stretch out across the page

Partial rhyming with no real meaning

Patterns emerge within the written word

Rules of language in poems can be bend

Rhyming couplets get there in the end

And now I hope to end this little ditty

With some words that can be witty

"One Night" is a nice poem... love the rhyme... so few engage in it anymore

Hi Catherine - thank you for your kind comments upon 'Woodland Trails' - much appreciated. I see from your 'One Night' that nature is a theme you enjoy writing about as well.

Best wishes

Dave

Oh - I'm so sorry about that Catherine - he must have been young. I am glad you have been able to find love again and yes Cook does spell well - even better if he lives up to his name. I think I'm looking for a Mr Cook, Iron and Clean - I could probably add a few more but this is a public forum. Tee hee. There must be another poem in all this somewhere.. Nice to have you on WOL - I hope you enjoy.

Your comment made me howl! When I saw your profile go up I did wonder whether it was a maiden or married name. Poor you - at least mine can be spelt phonetically if you don't pronounce it correctly. Hopefully your marriage will fare better than mine - opposites attract and then repel pretty badly...
